That Full Moon Tonight

Originally published:

Standing in our kitchen, lit only by the fullness of the moon, I found myself staring at it remembering it is the very same moon (save for a few relatively recent visits) Christ and those in his ministry viewed just before the the events that occurred some 1,982 years ago…

It also occurred to me that most of us have been more faithful in observing when Christ was crucified (first Friday after the 4th full moon of the year) than we have been faithful to Christ for why he did what he did for us…

Let that sink in for a moment…

Most of us have been more faithful in observing when Christ was crucified than we have been faithful to Christ for why he did what he did for us

100+ People Wondering What Was Next

What was it like for the 100 or so people, especially for the 11 apostles and Mary, to be sitting around tonight those many years ago, knowing Christ had been crucified yet not knowing what would transpire within the next 12 hours…

Judas betrayed Christ, yet a criminal next  to Christ on Skull Hill adored him.

Unless any of us have read the medical accounts and visualized what had happened to Christ physically, most still will never know what he really endured.

Even those that have read the medical accounts and visualized, do we really know what it was like to be forsaken for those few hours, making it impossible to call upon his legions of angels?

Christ made possible (and paid for) what none of us could.

Yet the mindset of the Sadducees still lives in the form of organized religion today.

Christ never talked of religion save when he talked directly to those leaders and the hypocrisy of ways.

Christ mostly talked of faith.

Those who have not read the Bible will never know this (or unless they are reading these very words) — nor experience this.

Most religious today, like then, will fear the reprisal of their organized religion and ignore the fact that their fear is misplaced  —  they should have developed for the One True God.

Yet, in the name of glorifying God’s name, persecution is allowed to persist.

Little do the persecutors know they are playing right into the devil’s hands.

The devil is spiritually dead yet he believes he will live forever — making him not exactly the sharpest knife at the table…

All God asks of us is our obedience.

And even without this, God still provides His love to all.

My apologies as I am still having challenges in getting my head around all this…

For this I blame the Progressive movement as it doesn’t want anyone to have to suffer, nor have to be perserverant in their doings — which is also denying those that follow such to avoid building character, avoid having any sense of true hope…

Something I believed in for a while, until Paul’s letter to the Romans read this about 30 years ago…

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us” — Romans 5:3-5

The Romans were a very spoiled lot as a civilization but at the time of Christ they were also ruled by very tyrannical emperor’s who wanted to control every facet of the lives of their citizens .

If unfamiliar, Roman citizens were not permitted to suffer — if they had a need then the government was supposed to provide for it.

This had weakened the Roman citizens as they had no clue how to persevere through anything — relying totally upon their government for relief for everything.

Not exactly the way to keep a backbone to any civilization now, is it?

The Path to Honor

Christ as well as Deuteronomy and Proverbs teaches us that humility begets respect which begets honor…

Yet how many times in our lives have we seen those lacking humility demanding respect and honor?

How many times in our lives have we demanded respect and honor without exercising humility?

Every day there is something to humble us — and God still permits our will to determine if we will learn from it or ignore it.

This is true for true believers as well as those that don’t believe, God does not prejudge — God lets us determine what to build with our lives.

So to the reader of this post, think about what it was like for the mere 100 people who thought they just gave up everything to follow someone who some believed was dead and others not so sure what would happen next.

They, in fact, did give up everything — it is the only way God can fill any of us…

Faith and doubt can not exist in the same space — it is one, or the other…

So dear reader, God can fill you but you need to give something up — what are you going to give up?

The easiest thing you can give up is anything material — the truest form of allowing God to fill you is giving something up within yourselves…

Surrendering it and you, so He can fill you…

What are you willing to give up?

    The worlds (lyrics) of Judson W. Van DeVenter still say a lot.

    All to Jesus I surrender;
    All to Him I freely give;
    I will ever love and trust Him,
    In His presence daily live.
        I surrender all,
        I surrender all;
        All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
        I surrender all.
    All to Jesus I surrender;
    Humbly at His feet I bow,
    Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
    Take me, Jesus, take me now.
    All to Jesus I surrender;
    Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
    Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
    Truly know that Thou art mine.
    All to Jesus I surrender;
    Lord, I give myself to Thee;
    Fill me with Thy love and power;
    Let Thy blessing fall on me.
    All to Jesus I surrender;
    Now I feel the sacred flame.
    Oh, the joy of full salvation!
    Glory, glory, to His Name!
